Hello April! 🌷 April means it's National Volunteer Month! Americorps Seniors RSVP Program is excited to celebrate this month with you. Join us for a volunteer project, recruit a friend to volunteer, and/or thank yourself for the good you do! This month, we've got plenty of ways to keep you engaged and active. Continue reading to view our highlights, volunteer opportunities, upcoming workshops, and important updates with you. 

Celebrate Volunteer Month with a Beach Clean Up 

🐋 🌊 April 13th  🐬 🐠

Join us in April, Global Volunteer Month, for some fun in the sun and a meaningful project. This beach clean up will play a huge part in keeping the community clean! Bring a friend, and celebrate volunteer month by the beautiful ocean! 

When: April 13th, 2025

Time: 10am - 12pm

Where: Santa Cruz Main Beach

Upcoming Fall Prevention Workshop - April

Knowledge is power! Empower yourself this April by enrolling in the ever popular Matter of Balance workshop. This workshop is evidence-based and proven to help reduce the risk and fear of falling. Monterey Bay RSVP volunteers, Barbara and Renee, will lead the class to success by extending their fall prevention expertise to you! You will learn home safety, decrease the fear of falling, and learn gentle stretches and exercises that can increase strength and improve balance. 

Dates: April 22nd - May 20th (No class April 24th)

Days: Tuesdays & Thursdays 10-12pm 

Location: Annex Room at the Simpkins Center, 979 17th Ave Santa Cruz CA 95062

Working Together to Stay Safe from Scams

Shandra Handley from the Santa Cruz County DA's Office and Bill Proulx from Senior Network Services led an excellent workshop covering scam prevention for over 50 seniors in the community! They covered the latest and most prevalent scams and what you can do to protect yourself. Thank you to all who joined us for our Scam Prevention Workshop. Your engagement made the event a success! We appreciate our expert speakers and volunteers for sharing critical information to help protect our community from scams. 

Craft and Connect for Good 🎨 - May 1st 


Come together and create Mother's Day, Father's Day and Thinking of you cards, for seniors living in assisted living facilities. Your art and cards will help brighten someones day! Bring a friend and get your craft on. 

We need you here! Upcoming Volunteer Opportunities


Spring has spring and spring cleaning has begun! 🌸 Volunteer with the Helping Hands Program to help Seniors with Small Yard Clean Ups! 🌳🏡

Some senior shave difficulty maintaining their yards due to mobility, health issues, or other reasons. Give back this season by helping with sweeping, raking, weeding and small clean ups for those who need a bit of help! You will help keep homes beautiful and free of fall hazards.

Fight food insecurity with the Community FoodBank of San Benito County 🍊🍌🍎

Help assemble food bags and assist neighbors coming by to pick up fresh produce and groceries! Volunteers are needed Wednesdays from 8:30am - 12pm to assemble brown bags, Thursdays 9-3pm and Friday/Saturday from 9-12pm to assist shoppers in the pantry/marketplace.

Help nourish those in need - Join the Meals on Wheels of Monterey Peninsula or Santa Cruz County 🍓💫

Volunteers empower seniors, disabled adults, veterans, and he community remain independent by nourishing their bodies, minds, and spirits. Help drive out hunger and isolation by volunteering with Meals on Wheels! Volunteers deliver meals, help with luncheon, make sandwiches, and more!

Be a Volunteer Fall Prevention Expert 🌟

Volunteers are needed to facilitate fall prevention workshops called Matter of Balance. Volunteers provide essential fall prevention education such as home safety and modifications, gentle stretches and exercises, and more! This is an evidence based program and volunteers are given a lesson plan and robust training!

MONTHLY HOURS - Please submit your RSVP hours for December!  Each month we ask that you submit your monthly hours. These are incredibly important to log as it provides us with record to validate dates of service, provide you with resources and reimbursement, and demonstrate the effectiveness of RSVP.
